Doors used between rooms in apartments are not a simple element of decor. They protect us from extra noise, allow us to stay alone and to keep away from total mess. Today the assortment of doors provided for interior installation is so wide that sometimes it’s difficult to make choice.
Kinds of apartment doors by the number of leaves
By the number of leaves doors between rooms are divided into:
- single-leafed interior doors – consist of one leaf;
- double-leafed interior doors – consist of two leaves;
- half-leafed door – the door with two leaves of different width;
Wing, sliding, folded interior doors
By the way of opening interior doors are divided into:
- Wing interior doors are the most popular. These interior doors can be installed so that they open to the right or to the left. Wing interior doors have one shortcoming – they need free space to open. For spacious premises double-leafed wing interior doors or swing doors are often used as their construction allows opening the door in both directions.
- Sliding interior doors are suitable if there is a lack of free space. Such interior doors beside leaf and frame are also completed with guide rail and swing mechanism, and the leaf of sliding interior door can be hidden into the niche (holder) or can move parallel to it.
- Folded interior doors can also help if there is a problem with free space. Folded interior doors consist of vertical sections connected with each other, which move by guide rails mounted in the door aperture.
Kinds of interior doors depending on leaf construction
Depending on leaf construction interior doors can be:
- Solid interior doors are made of wood along the whole leaf thickness.
- Material for wooden massive doors goes through complex technological treatment, and therefore the cost of ready product is rather expensive.
- Interior doors made of glued wood also have good characteristics. They are made of individual bars with differently directed fibers, which compensates natural wood deformation.
- The basis for frame (panelled) interior doors is binding (frame) located along the perimeter of sheet leaf. Such interior doors are made of coniferous wood or glued wood. If beside binding there are intermediate elements, the space between which is filled with veneer, glass, particle board (medium-density fibreboard), such doors are called panelled.
- Veneered interior doors are frames which can be boarded with different material: plastic sheets, laminated plastic, medium-density fibreboard or veneer. Internal part of such interior doors can be completely hollow, can be partially filled with bars or grate made of wood or fibreboard, or can be completely filled with corrugated board or particle board.
