The vinyl siding appears at the middle of last century in North America where a majority of Americans lived in suburb, in private houses with small lot.
At the end of 1950s with development of polymeric industry the new covering material for exterior finish was designed. It was panels manufactured from painted in mass vinyl (PVC) that imitate the form of traditional wood boarding. Thus, the covering appears that is resistant to the effects of weather, doesn’t need a painting, and is lighter, more manufacturable and durable than traditional painted planking.
The vinyl siding can be used practically on every facade. The vinyl siding is resistant to natural factors of deterioration. It easy sustains such exposures as high humidity, moderate acidic and alkaline medium, and temperature differences. It doesn’t absorb the dampness, doesn’t warp under the action of sunlight and doesn’t dote. It can be used in the range of temperature from -50 till +50C. In addition, the material is ecological and biologically inert one. Undoubtedly, the main factor of quality of house siding is its resistance of colour under the exposure to sunlight. Titanium dioxide is one of the stabilizing components that answer for colour stability. The siding with high resistance to burning is manufactured in soft colours because it doesn’t have intensive white colour. The brighter colour the material have, the lower its resistance to burning is.
The siding is easy to mount that allows work with it even through the absence of special skills and tools. By the mounting the panels are simply latched one after another and fastened by screws, self-tapping screws or nails. The siding can be mounted not only on metal or wood lathing (substructure) by installation of ventilated facade but also directly on facade (if the material of facade is suitable). In the case of wood lathing there is a need to provide its impregnation by special antipyrene and antiseptic compositions that protect wood from rotting, mold and make it fire-resistant.
Advantages of vinyl siding:
- The siding can have a large variety of textures (the material can imitate wood as well as stone) in combination with a wide range of tints.
- It saves its colour properties during the whole lifetime. Such siding doesn’t fade and doesn’t change its colour.
- It holds the heat and increase the sound elimination.
